The Cleveland Way route is one of England’s original routes that stretches 109 miles from Helmsley all the way to Filey. The Cleveland Way does run alongside Staithes, and this walk will help you by parking in Staithes and take in some of The Cleveland Way.
To start off with, park your vehicle in the car park in the heart of Staithes, and walk down into the centre of the village passing places such as The Staithes Museum, The Royal George, Dotty’s Tea Toom and then you will walk up Church Street after the Cod and Lobster.
Whilst the incline is quite steep when you walk up Church Street you will come to a point where you will take a slight left and up some steps. Follow the steps til you reach the top and you will take a left hand turn by the farm.
When you reach the barn you will see a gate that has a fence running along either side, allowing people to safely walk without disrupting the farm land.
This path takes you all the way to the cliff edge where you will be able to capture a superb photo of Staithes (like the one in this page). From this point, continue taking the path where you will see the beach and harbour behind you.
Continue along this path until you turn a right, again at the cliff edge. From here you will climb another steep hill until you reach the style where you will turn right onto the Cleveland Way.
Now you are on the Cleveland Way, you will be looping back onto yourself heading back to the farm where you originally turned left.
You will continue going up and down the hillside until you the reach farm where you will follow the path you had originally come up, to go down and back into Staithes.
